While there are many organisations and individuals to stand for human rights violations by the state, institution or even commercial organisations, victims of persecution of a more personal nature often go unnoticed.
In two such incidents, six unfortunate kids, found chained at two different places, were rescued within two days.
While the elderly couple was murdered at Nehianwala village in Bathinda on Tuesday, a day later police rescued an 11-year-old child who was chained by his drug-addict father in the house.
Shackled like dreaded criminals with a thick iron chain, generally used for cattle, the boy was found tied to a pillar in a locked room. The boy was rescued after a visitor to the house informed a voluntary organization about the cruel attitude of the father.
The police later arrested the father, Ashok Kumar, a mason.
Anju Bala, the mother of the child, revealed her husband was a drug addict and he used to beat the family members on very trivial issues almost every day.
On Wednesday morning he beat up his son Ajay Kumar (11) when the boy expressed his willingness to go out of the house to play in the street.
Five other kids, all 5 to 7 years of age, were found tied to a fan used for separating wheat from straw at Ellenabad grain market on Tuesday.
Their only fault was that a farmer alleged they had tried to steal his wheat from there and therefore he punished them.
Even the police showed indifference towards the kids as a DDR was registered against them before some social organizations took up their cause and a case was registered against the farmer.
